Washington U. scored on its first three possessions of the game, highlighted by junior Anthony Hollins' fast-break slam dunk, as the Bears raced out to an early 7-0 lead. The Bears hot shooting streak ended after a three-pointer by junior Rob Keller with 12:43 left, as WU went without a field goal for the next 8:30. Rochester responded by going on a 14-0 run to take an 18-11 advantage with 6:32 remaining in the first half.
The Bears, who scored one field goal in the final 12:43, struggled from the field in the first half as they shot 25 percent (6-24). Rochester also struggled from the field in the first frame, shooting only 31.3 percent (10-32), but managed to hold a 24-15 lead at halftime.
Rochester (17-0, 6-0 UAA), which extended its winning streak at home to 28 games, scored the first five points of the second half to extend its lead to 29-15. Hollins recorded back-to-back dunks to start a 12-2 run as Washington U. cut the lead to 31-27 with 13:02 remaining in the second half. The Bears cut the lead to 45-40 with 6:11 left after a three-pointer by junior Michael Faherty, but Rochester put the game out of reach with a 13-0 run to extend its lead to 58-40.
Hollins led the Bears with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Keller added 13 points. Seth Hauben led Rochester with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Washington University (12-5, 4-2 UAA) returns to action on Sun., Feb. 1 at Carnegie Mellon University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. (ET) at Skibo Gymnasium.
