The Seahawks, who trailed at halftime, 29-17, held the Bison to just six field goals in the second half to erase their 12 point deficit. The Seahawks tied the contest at 39-39 with 4:03 remaining on a field goal by Miller, who was fouled on the play. After converting the free throw attempt, Miller gave the Seahawks the lead for good at 40-39. The Seahawks, with the conference's top scoring defense (65.9 ppg), held the Bison scoreless for 4:10 to take the lead and hold on down the stretch.
Sophomore forward Robert Haney, Jr. (Fort Wayne, IN/Indiana School for the Deaf), the conference's leading scorer and rebounder, led the Bison with 12 points and eight rebounds before fouling out of the contest with just eight seconds remaining. Sophomore guard David Farias (Bowie, MD/Model Sec. School for the Deaf) scored nine points while sophomore guard Brendan Stern added eight points.
Miller had game-high honors for the Seahawks with 18 points. Sophomore forward Joe Farina (Laurel, MD/Pallotti) added 13 points while freshman guard Dan Engelstad (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) contributed with 11 points, five steals, and four assists. Junior forward John Dewey (Arlington, VA/Yorktown) grabbed a game-high ten rebounds for the Seahawks.
St. Mary's College (5-10, 3-4 CAC) will return to action on Saturday, January 31, when they travel to Salisbury University for a CAC contest. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
