Wheaton junior guard Josean Vega, who paced all scorers with 20 points, recorded his 1,000th career point with 6:11 left in the game. Vega entered tonight’s game as the conference’s leading scorer at 21.6 ppg. This was also a big night for head coach Brian Walmsley, who picked up his 100th-career victory as the Lyons improved to 11-6 and 2-3 in the NEWMAC.
SC, which dropped to 5-12 and 1-4 in the conference, received 12 points and eight rebounds from sophomore forward Joel Aponte, and sophomore guard Derek Yvon scored 11 points.
Although Vega led the team in scoring, it was the Lyons’ big men who made the difference. Senior forward Scott Mahan had 17 points, nine boards and three blocks and senior forward Frankie Whall came off the bench to score 16 points.
