Salem State improves to 14-2 on the season, and 5-0 in the MASCAC, with their 12th straight win over the Bears, a streak that dates back to the 1997-98 MASCAC Championship game. BSC sinks to 7-8 on the season, and 4-1 in conference play.
Leading the charge for the Vikings was senior Bobby Michalczyk (Lowell, MA) who scored 20 points on 9 of 13 shooting, and also pulled down 8 rebounds. Junior Ifesinachi Anosike (Staten Island, NY) registered a double-double as he was an imposing figure inside for the Vikings. Inoseke scored 11 points and added 11 boards and 4 blocks. Sophomore Shawn Bloom (Springfield, MA) was huge in the first half, scoring 14 of his 17 points.
The Bears were paced by junior Peter Santos (Fairhaven, MA) who led the way with 17 points and a team high 6 rebounds. Sophomore David Rukstalis (Norwood, MA) also added 17 points, with 13 of those coming in the first half.
The story in this game was Salem’s performance on the offensive glass, as they ripped down 21 offensive rebounds, which led to numerous second chance opportunities.
Bridgewater will welcome another MASCAC opponent in Fitchburg State College on Saturday for a 3:00 start, as head coach Joe Farroba looks to become the Bears’ all-time winningest coach. Farroba currently has 145 career wins under his belt, which ties him with former BSC skipper Tom Knudson.
Salem will return home to host Worcester State on Saturday in another MASCAC game, which will also begin at 3:00.
