Washington College 86, McDaniel 72

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Senior forward David Horvath and sophomore guard Dustin Abbate combined to score 48 points to lead host Washington College to an 86-72 Centennial Conference victory over visiting McDaniel College this evening at Cain Athletic Center.

The Shoremen jumped out to a 42-32 lead at halftime after shooting 53% from the floor and 50% from beyond the three-point line in the first half. Washington increased its lead to 50-34 with 16:32 left in the second half, but the Green Terror went on a 19-8 spurt to close within five points following a jumper by Kyle O'Connor that made it 58-53 with 7:30 remaining. The Shoremen responded with a 17-2 run which was capped off by a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Kyle Stem with 3:55 remaining that pushed the lead to 75-55. Washington led by at least 14 points the rest of the way.

Horvath led all scorers with 25 points on seven-of-12 shooting from the field, five-of-seven shooting from beyond the three-point line, and six-of-nine shooting at the charity stripe. He also pulled down eight rebounds. Abbate added 23 points, canned three three-pointers, and converted eight-of-nine attempts at the free-throw line. Sophomore forward Jonathan Webb added 18 points on seven-of-11 shooting from the floor and collected a team-high nine rebounds for the Shoremen. Stem finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Sam Anstead scored a team-high 19 points and swiped a game-high four steals to lead McDaniel. Kyle O'Connor added 17 points, while Robert Wills scored 13 points and posted game-highs of 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Alan Hoyt scored 12 points and brought down seven rebounds for the Green Terror.

For the game, the Shoremen shot 44% from the field, while holding the Green Terror to 32% shooting.
