Junior guard Mike Dahlstrom sank a 3-point basket , his lone field goal of the game, with 1:26 left to erase the last Hamline lead and lift St. Thomas to a 58-54 victory over visiting in MIAC men's basketball action Wednesday night at UST's Schoenecker Arena.
The Tommies (7-10 overall, 5-7 MIAC) won their second game in a row and avenged a last-second loss to Hamline Dec. 8 on the Pipers' floor.
The Toms outerebounded Hamline 42-33. Neal Anderson had 15 points, Joey Shimek had 12 points and eight rebounds, Nick Schader had 10 points and eight and Danny Peterson had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Brandon Aukes had 11 points and eight rebounds and Josh Hanson had 10 rebounds for Hamline (6-12, 3-10).
Dahlstrom made 2-of-4 free throws in the final minute to build a four-point lead. Anderson sank two free throws with :02 left to ice the victory.
Hamline raced to leads of 11-0 and 16-4 and led 35-30 at halftime. But the Pipers made just 5-of-30 from the field in the second half.
The Tommies went 8:00 without a field goal before Shimek's basket put them ahead 51-50 with 2:47 left. The Pipers took a 52-51 lead on two hanson free throws with 2:32 left.
St. Thomas plays at St. Mary's Saturday (3 p.m.).
