Greenville jumped ahead early, but Maryville head coach Matt Rogers was able to settle his squad down and take control in the final minutes of the first half. Sophomore Ben Hebl aided the Saints effort by knocking down 4-5 from downtown and 5-7 from the field to record 14 points in the first half.
The Panthers came out hungry in the second half; they quickly took the lead and never looked back. Greenville capitalized on Saints turnovers and led by as many as 15 points. They also shot 24-31 (.774) from the charity stripe in the half, compared to Maryville's 9-16 (.563) free throw shooting in the second half. The Panthers finished 34-49 (.694) from the line for the game, while the Saints hit only 14 of their 27 attempts (.519) from the stripe.
Greenville had four players score in double figures in their winning effort. Jason Sikma led the pack with 21 points, while Mario Marshall and Mario Young recorded 12 points a piece. Demajo Clemens added 13 points, six assists, four steals and four rebounds on the night.
Junior Stephen Bash recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 23 points and 15 rebounds to lead Maryville. Bash shot 8-11 (.727) from the floor and 7-12 (.583) from the free throw line. Hebl finished with 17 points on 5-10 (.500) shooting from behind the arc, while sophomore Matt Regan tallied nine points, six boards and six assists.
The Saints return to action this Saturday, when they travel cross town for a 3:00 p.m. SLIAC matchup with Fontbonne University.
