Dubuque opened as big as a nine-point advantage and held on to it until first-year forward Tarah Mulder of Waverly canned a pair of free throws with 11:37 left, giving the home side a 59-58 lead. The Knights built their advantage to as many as five but UD rallied back on the heels of their outside shooting and had an opportunity to tie the score with one second left but a trey by Kelly Thompson was just short.
Berner dropped in 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Mennen finished with 15 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, two blocked shots and two steals. Dubuque's Dana Kester led all scorers with 30 points. Jessica Cox was second-high for the Spartans, tallying 25.
