Cortland State 71, New Paltz State 40

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. — Sophomore guard Dani Maye scored 18 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds as Cortland won 71-40 at New Paltz in a SUNYAC matchup. The Red Dragons improve to 6-1 in league play and 12-3 overall, while the Hawks fall to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

Maye scored 12 points in the first half as Cortland raced out to a 37-14 lead. The Red Dragons started the game on an 8-0 run and led by as many as 26 points in the opening period. Cortland held the Hawks to 23 percent shooting (5-of-22) in the first half and 26 percent for the game. The Red Dragons shot 44 percent from the field and connected on 89 percent (16-of-18) of their free throws.

Junior Deirdre Zimmerman scored 11 points off the bench for Cortland. Senior Michelle Ciquera registered nine points and eight rebounds and junior Kristen Egan added eight points, six rebounds and five assists. Freshman Andrea Wilkinson, playing in her hometown, made 3-of-4 shots and finished with seven points.

Kim Weigel scored 16 points to pace New Paltz. Tania Liberato grabbed eight rebounds and Kerri Kelty totaled five assists and four steals.

Cortland held a 54-28 rebounding advantage, including a 16-10 edge on the offensive glass.
