Kenny received a pass near half-court, dribbled the ball to the right baseline, and put up a shot from just outside the paint that bounced five times off the rim before falling through the net with no time left on the clock. Just nine seconds earlier, the Fighting Scots (8-9, 5-3 CCC) had tied the game on a 3-pointer by Hayes Murray (SR, West Simsbury, CT).
Colby-Sawyer scored the first seven points of the night and jumped out to a 41-25 halftime lead. Gordon had trailed by as much as 25 (39-14) in the opening period before closing with an 11-2 run. The Scots continued to chip away in the second half and tallied nine unanswered points to take a 53-47 edge with just over 10 minutes to play.
The Chargers regained the lead (57-56) on a pair of free throws by Collin Bray (SO, Brookline, MA/New Hampton (NH) Prep) and the contest would be tied two more times before its conclusion. Colby-Sawyer’s Chris Condon (JR, Reading, MA/Reading Memorial HS) hit one 3-pointer to break a 58-58 deadlock and another to put Colby-Sawyer up 65-61.
Ryan Smith (SR, Hamilton, MA) drilled a trifecta that brought Gordon within a point and Andrew St. Clair (SO, Pittsfield, ME/Maine Central Institute) pushed the Chargers’ advantage back to three when he corralled an offensive rebound and put in a layup with 2:24 to go. Neither side would score again until Murray’s trey knotted the game for the fourth time in the period.
St. Clair led Colby-Sawyer with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Tyler Putnam (SO, Hodgdon, ME/Hodgdon HS) and Kenny had 14 and 13 points, respectively. Condon chipped in 10 points to the victory.
Murray went 11-foor-17 from the field and drained four 3-pointers en route to his game high 31 points. Smith also connected on four long-range shots in a 16 point-effort, while Mike Herr (FR, Lampeter, MA) nailed three of the Scots’ 13 bombs.
Colby-Sawyer will travel to Henniker, New Hampshire on Thursday for a CCC game versus New England College (7:30 p.m.).
