Clark 82, Springfield 64

Worcester, MA — The Clark University men’s basketball team defeated Springfield College 82-64 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game. The Cougars led by 11-points heading into the intermission and led by as many 17 points with 15:53 to play in the game. Springfield cut the lead to 10 with 11 minutes to play but the Cougars pushed the lead back to 21 (75-54) with just under five minutes left in regulation. The Cougars hit 12-of-27 long range shots while the Pride made 9-of-26. Clark’s senior Trevor Walker (Milford, MA/Milford) had a solid night shooting pouring a game-high 21 points on 6-for-10 shooting overall including 5-for-9 from long range and 4-for-4 from the line. He added four rebounds and two assists. Classmate Dave McNamara (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) added 18 points, two assists and four steals. Sprinfield’s sophomore Derek Yvon (E. Longmeadow, MA/Cathedral) had a team-high 18 points and sophomore Joel Aponte (Windsor, CT/Windsor) added 15 points and seven rebounds. Sprinfifeld fell to 5-11 and 1-3 in the conference. Sophmore Tim Dutille (Lebanon, NH/Lebanon) chipped in 15 points and four rebounds for the Cougars who improved to 9-6 and 4-1 in the conference. Senior Brent Kenneway (Sturbridge, MA/Tantasqua Regional) and first-year Asher Cowan (Petersborough, NH/Cushing Academy) each had nine points for the Cougars. Cowan went 3-for-5 from long range. Clark has won three out of their last four games and will travel to to NEWMAC foe Coast Guard Academy on Thursday, January 29 for a 7:00 pm start.
