The Bulldogs improved to 12-5 overall and to 4-2 in the American Southwest Conference West Division.
Schreiner fell to 7-9 overall and to 0-6 in the ASC West.
Texas Lutheran, a winner of three straight, received 20 points and six rebounds off the bench from redshirt freshman Jerrod Carpenter (Utopia/Utopia).
Carpenter played the entire second half in place of the injured Tommy Stolhandske (San Antonio/Churchill), the NCAA Division III’s leading rebounder and the nation’s 12th-ranked scorer. Stolhandske was injured in the first half and did not return to action. He managed 11 points and eight rebounds in 14 minutes.
Carpenter scored 16 of his game-high 20 points in the second half as Texas Lutheran turned a 1-point deficit into as much as an 18-point lead. Carpenter was 5-of-7 from the floor and 10-of-12 from the foul line.
Schreiner led 37-36 with 10:28 to play, but Texas Lutheran scored 11 points over the next two minutes, 14 seconds and quickly stretched the lead to 10.
Hunter Holsonback (Corpus Christi/Tuloso Midway) started the TLU run with a 3-pointer. Nik Summers (San Antonio/Marshall) then followed with a three, and Carpenter added a three-point play on a dunk and a free throw. Summers concluded the TLU spurt with a jumper.
Summers, the junior guard, hit 5-of-6 shots and scored 11 points in the second half. Summers, who hit the game-winning shot Saturday against Mary Hardin-Baylor, finished with 15 points and three assists. In his last three games, Summers has scored 19, 15 and 15.
The Bulldogs have played the last three games without second-leading scorer Will Hudson (San Antonio/Churchill). But with contributions from a variety of players, the Bulldogs are 3-0 since losing Hudson. All three victories have come on the road in the ASC West.
Texas Lutheran returns home for two ASC West games this week. The Bulldogs play McMurry at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Hardin-Simmons at 3 p.m. Saturday.
