MADISON, N.J.—Nothing went right for the University of Scranton men’s basketball team in Monday night’s 90-60 loss to FDU-Florham in Freedom Conference action.
The Royals shot only 32.7 percent from the field, were out-rebounded 49-31, and committed 234 turnovers in falling to 2-15 overall and 0-6 in the Freedom Conference. Junior forward Brian O’Donnell led Scranton with 14 points and freshman guard Sean Clark came off the bench to add eight points and three steals in 15 minutes of action.
Chris Hendershot scored 23 of his game-high 35 points in the second half as the Devils, now 7-9 overall and 2-4 in league play, broke away from a 35-25 lead at intermission by shooting a sizzling 19 of 33 from the field (57.6 percent) to finish 52.5 percent for the game. Hendershot, who also finished with a game-high 13 rebounds, was joined in double figures by Chris Trotta with 14.
Trailing by seven with 18:37 remaining in the game, the roof finally caved in for the Royals as Hendershot scored 12 points during a 25-6 spurt over an 8-minute span to spark the Devils to a 60-33 lead. FDU-Florham’s largest lead was 34 points, 80-46, at the 4:55 mark.
Scranton will host Delaware Valley in Freedom Conference action this Wednesday, January 28, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in the John J. Long, S.J., Center.
