DePauw 94, Oglethorpe 62

Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw used a 23-2 run that spanned the first and second halves to break open its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game with visiting Oglethorpe and take a 94-62 victory. The win was the third straight for the Tigers as they improved to 12-6 overall and 5-2 in the SCAC. The Stormy Petrels dropped to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

DePauw's defense limited the SCAC's top scoring team to just 62 points and held Russ Churchwell, the conference's leading scorer, to a season-low nine points. Meanwhile, the Tigers' offense connected on 59.6 percent from the floor and 60.9 percent on 14 of 23 three-pointers.

Oglethorpe held an early 13-7 lead before the Tigers put together a 15-2 stretch to take the lead for good. DePauw led 41-29 with four minutes to play in the first half and outscored the Stormy Petrels 12-2 to finish the half with a 53-31 lead. The Tigers nailed 11 of 14 three-pointers in the first half. DePauw then opened the second half by scoring the first 11 points to take a 64-31 advantage with 14:35 remaining.

Alex Stewart scored a career-high 24 points in 21 minutes and knocked down five first-half three-pointers. Jon Owens finished with 15 followed by Joey Hanger and John Gergely with 11 each. Gergely's 11 was a career high and came in just 10 minutes. Josh Burr paced the Stormy Petrels with 16 points.

DePauw outrebounded Oglethorpe 44-32 with Dre Smith grabbing eight. Churchwell hauled down eight for the Stormy Petrels. Hanger dished out four assists and Owens notched three steals in the win. Joel Azola paced Oglethorpe with three assists.

The Tigers return to action on Monday, February 2, when they host Rose-Hulman at 8 p.m. Oglethorpe host Sewanee on Friday, January 30.
