Waynesburg, Pa. — Titan Basketball Sets School Trey Mark While Topping Waynesburg 119-97 For 5th Straight Win (1/24/04)

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team connected on a school-record 23 three-pointers tonight, as the Titan cagers rolled to their fifth consecutive victory with a 119-97 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory against Waynesburg College at Rudy Marisa Gymnasium in Waynesburg. Westminster improved to 8-9 overall and 3-0 in the PAC, as the Titans are tied with Bethany College (12-4, 3-0 PAC) at the top of the league standings. Waynesburg dropped to 6-10 overall, 1-2 in league play.

The 23 treys by Westminster broke the mark set just six games ago, when the Titans fired in 22 three-pointers in a 123-96 win over Kalamazoo College. Since going to a run-and-gun offense and full-court trapping defense seven games ago, Westminster has posted a 6-1 record (the lone loss a 97-96 defeat at LaGrange) and is averaging 110.8 points per game. Against Waynesburg, the Titans led 54-45 at the half, but quickly put together a run early in the second half to take command, as Westminster led by as many as 31 points before clearing the bench late in the game.

The Titans were led by junior forward Pat O'Connor (Pittsburgh/Keystone Oaks H.S.), who blistered the nets for nine three-pointers en route to a career-high 33 points. O'Connor was 12-of-22 from the field, including 9-of-17 from three-point range. Guards Ed Pagley (New Castle/New Castle H.S.) and Mark DeMonaco (New Castle/New Castle H.S.) added 21 and 20 points, respectively, while sophomore forward Micah Delo (Ambridge/Ambridge H.S.) came off the bench to tally 17 markers in the win. DeMonaco added a team-best six steals, while sophomore forward Dom Joseph (New Castle/New Castle H.S.) dished out a team-high seven assists. Mike King and Marc Lodavico each scored 21 points in the loss for Waynesburg, while King became the 28th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points during the game. The Jackets outrebounded the Titans 57-47, but Westminster forced 30 Waynesburg turnovers while committing just 12.

Westminster men's basketball remains on the road this Wednesday, Jan. 28, as the Titans will look to continue their winning ways at PAC rival Washington & Jefferson College (7-10, 1-2 PAC) in Washington, Pa. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
