Guilford improved to 10-7 overall (6-4 ODAC), its best 17-game record since 1982-83. The Quakers have won four straight and eight of their last 10 games. Lynchburg dropped to 5-11 (2-7 ODAC) after scoring the fewest points by a Guilford opponent this season.
Guilford broke open a one-point game with a 15-3 second-half run that gave the hosts a 62-49 edge with 3:04 left. Pete Manos, Jr.'s (Davie, FL/Avon Old Farms (CT)) fourth three-pointer of the game was the only Lynchburg field goal in six shots during the Quakers' surge, which also featured four of the Hornets' 17 turnovers. Lynchburg never pulled closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
The Hornets scored the game's first five points, but Guilford awoke and tallied 24 of the next 28 markers to open a 24-9 first-half advantage. Clarke netted eight of the Quakers' points during the run. Lynchburg recovered and headed into halftime trailing, 29-21.
Senior Eric Williams (Greenville, SC/Southside) paced a solid effort by Guilford's reserves with 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 15 minutes. Guilford enjoyed a 29-16 advantage in bench scoring. Sophomore Genaro Lawhorn (Greensboro, NC/Oak Ridge Military Academy) chipped in nine points and three boards off the bench. Senior starter Josh Connor (Greensboro, NC/Northwest Guilford) had five points and a game-best 12 rebounds, his third straight game with 10 or more boards.
Lynchburg's Manos, Jr. led all scorers with 18 points and had three of the Hornets' 11 steals. Sophomore Matthew Sweeney (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) added 12 points off the bench.
Guilford visits 24th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan next Saturday (1/31) at 2:00 pm. Lynchburg visits fifth-ranked Hampden-Sydney Wednesday (1/28). Both contests are league tilts.
