The victory, ETBU's fourth in a row, keeps the Tigers (9-7, 4-1) in first place in the American Southwest Conference East Division. Mississippi College, the preseason favorite to unseat ETBU as ASC East champions, falls to 11-6 and 3-3.
Isom, last season's Freshman of the Year in the division, took the ball on an inbounds play with 28 seconds remaining in a 74-74 tie. He held the ball outside the arc until about six seconds remained and then went to work on his defender. Isom drove the lane, put up a nice ball fake and then nailed a shot from just beyond the free throw line to give the Tigers a 76-74 lead with less than a second left on the clock.
MC got a desperation toss, but Nick Paige's jumper didn't find the mark as the buzzer sounded.
ETBU had trailed, 72-65, with just over 2:30 remaining before getting a quick five points on a bucket by Isom and then a big 3-pointer from Adam Henderson that made it 72-70. A steal by Dontrell Jackson on MC's next possession set up a pair of free throws by Chris Isom that tied the score at 72-72.
The Choctaws took a 74-72 lead on their next possession, as Jazsmine Eugene hit a jumper with 49 seconds left. Cedric Isom then missed a jumper with 29 seconds left, but Henderson grabbed the rebound and scored the tying bucket with 24 seconds left while being fouled by James Dixon.
Henderson missed the free throw, but the ball went out-of-bounds on Mississippi College. That set up Isom's heroics in the final seconds.
Cedric Isom finished with a game-high 22 points, five rebounds, five assists and one steal in 39 minutes of play. Senior Quinton Owens added 11 points and three steals, with Chris Isom chipping in 10 points and seven rebounds.
Henderson, who has played big off the bench in ETBU's winning streak, added eight points and four boards.
The Choctaws were led by 20 points apiece from Paige, who hit four 3-pointers, and James Dixon, who had 20 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
