Macalester won its fifth in a row Saturday in Arden Hills, cruising past Bethel by 30 points, 91-61, to improve to 9-2 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
The Scots, who beat Bethel by 25 points in December, out-scored the Royals by 55 points in their two matchups this winter. At 9-2 in the league, they're a game in the loss column behind first-place Gustavus and two games clear of a trio of third-place teams: Bethel, Carleton and Concordia.
Macalester knocked down 13-of-23 tries from behind the three-point arc and shot 55% from the field for the game to post its season-high total of 91 points. Bethel, meanwhile, shot only 37%.
Last week's MIAC Player of the Week Erik Jackson went 4-for-5 from three-point range and finished with 19 points and five assists. Ben Van Thorre scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Chris Assel and Will Moeller each added 15 points. Moellerr was a red-hot 5-for-6 on three-pointers. Brendan Bosman ripped down a season-high 10 rebounds, while Adam Denny dished four four assists.
John Jacobs paced the Royals (13-4, 8-4 MIAC) with 16 points. Travis Jones and Tim Gilbert added nine each.
The score was tied 30-30 with 5:31 left in the first half before Mac closed out the period on a 22-4 run to go up 52-34 at the intermission. The margin was never less than 19 in the second half.
