ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – A 29-7 run to close out the first half propelled Augustana to an impressive 80-38 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin victory over North Park in the Carver PE Center. Augustana led 18-14 with 9:14 left in the first half when Drew Carstens (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, IL) ignited the run with a layup at 8:52. Carstens would score 12 points in the outburst and with his fourth basket of the first half he moved into second place on Augustana’s career scoring list. He passed Bruce Hamming (1,668 points from 1971-75) and he now has 1,680 points in his time in a Viking uniform. Carstens finished the game with a game leading 18 points. Jordan Watson (Galesburg HS, Galesburg, IL) chipped in with 16 points as all 16 players in uniform played and 11 scored. Augustana shot .563 (18-32) from the floor in the first half. The Vikings pounded the visitors on the boards to the tune of a 48-32 advantage with Travis Hoyt (Moline HS, Moline, IL) led the way with seven. Cal Ecker led North Park in scoring with 13 points. Augustana is now 10-7 overall and 4-2 in the CCIW while North Park falls to 6-10 and 1-4.
