Christa Margossian opened the game for MIT by scoring its first two baskets before the Lasers (5-8) built an 8-4 advantage on back-to-back three-pointers by Courtney Duffy and Christy Silver. Tech responded by going on a 15-0 run, with its largest margin at 11 points (19-8) with 11:36 remaining. Coming out of a timeout, Lasell went on a 15-4 spurt over the next seven minutes to give the game its third tie (23-23). A three-pointer by MIT’s Andrea Dooley was followed by three consecutive trifectas by Lasell. The Lasers entered the intermission with a five-point advantage (34-29), their largest of the half.
Like the first half, Christa Margossian provided the Engineers with their first points of the second stanza. It would not be enough as Lasell extended its lead to 12 (47-35) at the 13:09 mark. Back-to-back layups by Rayna Zacks sparked a 22-6 run, giving Tech a 57-53 lead with 2:56 remaining. A three-point play by Theresa Allen followed by a basket by Keri Tucker gave the Lasers a one-point advantage (58-57) and ended a three minute scoring drought. MIT regained the lead for the last time on a basket by Karen Kinnaman at 1:34.
Rayna Zacks finished the day with a game-high 15 rebounds, including 10 caroms off the offensive glass, and eight points. Christa Margossian contributed 10 points while Karen Kinnaman added nine points and nine boards.
For Lasell, Stacey George totaled 12 points and a game-high three blocks off the bench while Courtney Duffy dished out a game-high seven assists.
The next game for MIT will be on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2:00 p.m. when it travels to NEWMAC foe Smith College.
