AUSTIN - The Texas Lutheran men's basketball team snapped a two-game slide with a 70-62 road victory Thursday over the Concordia-Austin Tornados.
Playing without second-leading scorer Will Hudson, Texas Lutheran received key contributions from junior guard Nik Summers, sophomore point guard Jason Morales and junior guard Mike Ekanem. Hudson, who averaged 15 points per game, missed the contest with a foot injury.
Summers (San Antonio/Marshall) led TLU with 19 points. Morales (El Paso/Montwood) added 11, and Ekanem (Sugar Land/Terry) tied for the game-high in rebounds with eight.
Tommy Stolhandske (San Antonio/Churchill) scored 16 points and added eight rebounds. The junior forward also recorded three steals.
Texas Lutheran moved to 10-5 overall and to 2-2 in the American Southwest Conference West Division.
Concordia-Austin fell to 7-8 overall and to 0-4 in the ASC West.
Texas Lutheran led by as many as 15 in the second half before a late Concordia-Austin push whittled the margin to single digits. TLU hit 18 of 26 free throws in the second half to hold off the Tornados.
TLU stays on the road for its next conference game, a Saturday encounter with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Game time is 3 p.m. in Belton. Mary Hardin-Baylor defeated Schreiner 74-72 Thursday in Belton.
