Sophomore David Rukstalis (Norwood, MA) led the charge with a game-high 20 points, adding five rebounds. Junior Peter Santos (Fairhaven, MA) added 13 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks, while fellow junior Chris Hayes (Weymouth, MA) chipped in nine points and four boards.
UMass-Boston jumped out to a 40-32 lead at the end of the first half, and kept it close the entire game, behind the play of junior Eric Summerville (Little Rock, AR) who notched a team-high 18 points, and freshman Tony Barros (Dorchester, MA) who recorded 17 points and 7 rebounds. Junior Roger Perry (Roxbury, MA) also played well, with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
During the game, Bridgewater State College welcomed the NCAA Basketball Mascot, J.J. Jumper. In a pre-game ceremony, a brand new Bridgewater State College athletic logo was unveiled. Bridgewater State College President, Dr. Dana Mohler-Faria and BSC Director of Athletics, John Harper, were on hand to do the honors.
The Bears will host Curry College on Saturday at 1, while UMass-Boston will travel to Western Connecticut State University on Saturday at 3, in a Little East Conference game.
