UW-River Falls 71, UW-Stout 63

Menomonie, Wis. — It was a game of inside versus outside in the first half as UW-Stout held a 37-31 halftime lead over UW-River Falls. But it was a different story in the second half as the Falcons' inside game far out-trumped the Blue Devils' perimeter game and River Falls went on to a 71-63 WIAC win at Johnson Fieldhouse, Wednesday, Jan. 21.

In the first stanza, the Blue Devils' Jeff Vandenberghe kept pace with the Falcons' standout player Rich Melzer. Vandenberghe popped in four 3-pointers and tallied 16 points, while Melzer hit seven shots, all inside the arc, and most of them in the paint, to tally 17 first half points.

Vandenberghe was blanked in the second half and Melzer added 19 points to finish with a game high 36 points.

Billy Halter scored 12 points for the Falcons (11-5, 5-3). Nate Templer added 16 points for Stout (10-6, 4-4) and Greg Chaisson chipped in 11 points.
