Haverford 92, Washington College 74

HAVERFORD, Pa. — Host Haverford College opened the second half with a 24-9 run to pull away from visiting Washington College en route to a 92-74 Centennial Conference victory this evening. The Fords improved to 6-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 5-10 and 2-6 with the loss.

Haverford led by eight points, at 38-30, with 2:20 to go in the first half, but the Shoremen cut the lead down to 38-34 by the intermission. The Fords then went on their crucial run in the second half that was capped off by a lay-up by Jeremy Bass with 9:13 to push the Haverford lead to 62-43. The Fords led by at least 11 points the rest of the way.

Bass scored a game-high 24 points for Haverford on seven-of-12 shooting from the field and 10-of-10 shooting from the free throw line. He also pulled down seven rebounds and blocked three shots. Mark Gabriel tossed in 23 points for the Fords on 10-of-15 shooting and grabbed eight boards. Raymond Brown and Patrick Stewart added 11 and 10 points, respectively, and shared game-high rebounding honors with nine a piece. Johnny Elefterakis dished out a game-high ten assists.

Sophomore guard Kyle Stem led the Shoremen with 22 points on eight-of-16 shooting from the floor and six-of-six shooting from the line. He also dished out a team-high three assists and recorded a game-high three steals. Sophomore forward Jonathan Webb added 17 points and was eight-for-eight from the charity stripe, while sophomore guard Travis Moore contributed 10 points.

Haverford shot 54% from the field to the Shoremen's 35% and held a commanding 47-26 advantage on the glass. Washington did convert 26 of its 27 free throw attempts in the loss.
