Capital 82, Wilmington 62

Columbus, Ohio — Capital University’s men’s basketball team finished the first half of Ohio Athletic Conference play in style, defeating Wilmington College, 82-62 on Wednesday. Jake Beck matched his season-high with 21 points as the Crusaders move to 12-4 overall, 6-3 in the OAC.

The win was the third straight for Capital and sixth in its last seven contests. The Quakers fall to 1-15 on the season, 1-8 in the OAC.

Wilmington jumped out to a five-point lead early in the first half, however, with the score deadlocked at 17-17 and 8:44 remaining, the Crusaders raced out to a 28-19 lead on the strength of an 11-2 run. Capital maintained that advantage heading into the locker room with a 36-27 lead. Beck led the way scoring 10 points in the half.

In the second half, Capital’s offensive barrage continued as the squad extended its lead to as many as 24 points before settling for the 82-62 final.

Along with Beck’s season-high, both senior Chuck Bihn and junior David Kalb came off the bench for season bests as Bihn poured in 10 while Kalb scored 12 as only other Crusaders in double digits.

Deon Short posted a team-high 15 points and added four rebounds in the losing effort for Wilmington.

The Crusaders hit the road to face off with nationally ranked No. 10 and Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll University on Saturday in Cleveland for a 3:00 p.m. tip.
