Salem State 79 – Westfield State 59

WESTFIELD – Junior guard Allen Reid (Southbridge) scored 23 of his game-high 27 points in the first half to lead Salem State to a 79-57 Mass. State Conference victory over Westfield State on Jan. 20.
The Vikings improved to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Westfield is 7-6 and 1-2.
Sparked by Reid’s five 3-point baskets, the Vikings bolted to a 41-20 lead at the intermission. Leading 15-13 at the 9:48 mark, Salem went on a 15-0 run to take a commanding 30-13 lead with six minutes left in the first half.
Ifesinachi Anosike - Salem’s 6-8 junior center from Staten Island, N.Y. - posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Westfield’s only player in double figures was senior guard Allen Murray (Springfield/Central) with 13 points. Freshman forward Dan Holbrook (Lexington) – the conference’s leading rebounder – finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.
