St. Norbert 76, Ripon 75

De Pere, Wis. — Austin Washington's layup with 3.8 seconds left proved to be the game-winning points as St. Norbert pulled out a rousing 76-75 over archrival Ripon College at Schuldes Sports Center. On Ripon's last possession, a made layup by the Red Hawks' Tom Becker was waved off by the officials on a traveling violation.

St. Norbert led 65-56 with 8:16 to go before Ripon went on a 17-4 run to take a 73-69 lead with 2:45 left. Ripon was up 75-71 at the 1 minute mark, and a conventional three-point play with 47 seconds left by Seth Mulholland pulled the Green Knights to within 75-74. Following a St. Norbert foul with 27 seconds left, Ripon's Andy Kieck missed a pair of free throws and Mulholland pulled down the rebound to set up Washington's heroics.

The Green Knights led 46-44 after a wild first half, when St. Norbert made 11 3-points to shoot down Ripon's zone defense. The Green Knights had trouble defending as well, allowing the Red Hawks 54 percent accuracy in the first half. Following St. Norbert's 11-for-19 from beyond the arc in the first half, the Green Knights were 0-for-8 in the second half. St. Norbert's biggest first-half lead was eight points.

St. Norbert (7-6, 4-2 Midwest Conference) was led off the bench by sophomore forward Seth Mulholland, who pumped in 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds, both team highs. Junior guard Aaron Faulkner added 18 points and junior guard Brandon Hansen chipped in 13 points. The Green Knights shot 45.8 percent from the floor for the game.

Ripon, which has now lost five straight games, fell to 7-7 overall and 1-6 in the MWC. Scott Landisch had a game-high 24 points, while David McMullen added 14, Becker 13 and Kieck 11. The Red Hawks were 22-for-32 from the free-throw line and were outrebounded 35-29.
