Williams 77, Hamilton 63

CLINTON, N.Y. — CLINTON, N.Y. – Michael Crotty ’04 (Belmont, Mass.) scored 18 points to lead nationally ranked Williams College to a 77-63 non-conference win against Hamilton College in a men’s basketball game at Scott Field House on Jan. 20.

Ben Coffin ’04 (Westford, Mass.) registered a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds for No. 3 Williams (13-1 overall). Jaris Cole ’05 (East Point, Ga.) added 10 points and three blocked shots.

Joe Smith (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) led No. 22 Hamilton (9-3 overall) with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Smith needs five points for 1,000 in his career. Tim Welchons ’06 (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) and Mike Evans ’05 (Weston, Conn./Weston) chipped in 10 points apiece.

The Continentals trailed just 43-39 with 15:06 remaining in regulation, when the Ephs went on a 16-2 run that gave Williams a 59-41 lead with 9:51 left. Crotty made three three-pointers and scored 11 of the Ephs’ 16 points during the run. Hamilton could get no closer than the final 14-point deficit the rest of the game.

The Continentals will host Union College for an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association game on Jan. 23 at 8 p.m.
