Framingham State defeated 70-64 by Worcester State
The Worcester State men’s basketball team picked up its first conference win of the season with a 70-64 victory over Framingham State. Worcester State improves to 7-8 overall, 1-2 in conference, while the Rams fall to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the MASCAC.
Framingham State jumped out to an early 12-6 lead with just over 4 minutes played in the game. Worcester State battled back to tie the game at 14-14 and eventually take the lead at 17-14 on the strength of their outside shooting. The Lancers shot 60% from the field in the first half while the Rams shot only 45%. Tom Sullivan led the Lancers in the first half with 10 points while Matt Savage, who had a team high 17 points on the night, had 8 first half points including 2 of 3 from behind the arc.
Framingham State turned up their defensive pressure in the second half and was able to force the Lancers to commit 12 second half turnovers and were able to pull within 3 at 57-60 with just over six minutes to play. Framingham State freshman Ryan Dacey led all scorers with 22 points and junior Shane Little chipped in 15 points, but the Rams were unable to pull out the win down the stretch as Worcester State sank their free throws to seal the win.
The Rams next home game is Thursday night at 5:30 against Endicott College and on Saturday the Rams travel to Salem State for a 3pm game. Worcester State’s next game is Tuesday night at home against Colby-Sawyer.
