Guilford 76, Bridgewater (Va.) 73

Bridgewater, VA — Guilford College held off a late Bridgewater College rally Sunday afternoon to defeat the Eagles 76-73 in ODAC men’s basketball action.

The Quakers led by five, 59-54, before going on a 11-2 run to take their biggest lead of the game, 70-56, 6:39 left. Ron Bradford hit two straight 3-pointers and Jevon Clarke added one from beyond the arc for a 68-56 Guilford lead. A layup by Clarence Martin capped the run and gave the Quakers a 14-point lead.

The Eagles chipped away at the lead and closed to within one point in the closing minute when Ricky Easterling’s jumper made the score 74-73 with :32 seconds.

After Devon Clyburn hit two free throws to put the Quakers up three, the Eagles had a chance to tie in the final 10 seconds. Easterling missed a 3-point attempt but the Quakers were unable to control the rebound and the ball went out of bounds to the Eagles. Ashby Tarkington got off another 3-pointer before the buzzer, but the shot came up short.

Easterling led the Eagles with 24 points. Ryan Lambert scored 16 and Jeff Schwalm added 15. Clarke scored 17 points to lead the Quakers while Eric Williams added 13 and Clyburn 12.

The Eagles are now 9-5 overall and 4-4 in the ODAC while the Quakers improve to 8-8 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
