A foul filled game for both teams turned into an 86-78 loss for the LeTourneau University women’s basketball team against University of the Ozarks in an American Southwest Conference East Division game on Saturday afternoon.
The LadyJackets (3-10, 0-2) were called for 28 fouls in the game while the Lady Eagles were hit with 27. Each team shot a number of foul shots. The LadyJackets went 25-for-41 and Ozarks hit on 25-of-39.
Sophomore Brooke Stowers led three LadyJackets in double figures with 18 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the floor. Freshman guard Katrina Visina scored in double figures for the second consecutive game and finished with a career high 17 points while dishing out four assists. Sophomore Marissa Coop was the final LadyJacket in double figures as she totaled 13 points, six rebounds and a team high six assists.
The Lady Eagles featured the lost post games of Mandi Carter and Jenna Corbell. Carter had 20 points and seven rebounds while Corbell went for 13 points and seven boards. Guard Rachael Marble had a terrific game with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
LETU trailed by 11 points in the first half, 44-33, but were able to cut the lead to five after a few minutes of play. Ozarks responded by pushing the lead back to 11 and held it there most of the second half before a late bucket by the LadyJackets made the final score an eight point margin.
The LadyJackets shot 33.8 percent from the floor and were out rebounded by a 52-to-46 margin. After 11 turnovers in the first 14 minutes of play the team handled the ball with care, only turning it over six more times throughout the game.
The LadyJackets play again on Tuesday night in Marshall, TX against arch-rival East Texas Baptist at 5:30 p.m. The game can be heard on www.tsrnsports.com.
