St. Benedict was paced by Kim Johnson's 16 points while Anna Heikenen added 12. Katie Kempe came off the bench to score 10 points, including a three-pointer with 1:27 left that gave the Blazers (12-1, 10-0 MIAC) a 60-56 lead.
The loss ended Carleton's (12-1, 9-1 MIAC) 12-game winning streak, the second-longest in school history. The Blazers are now the lone unbeaten team remaining in MIAC play, as Carleton falls back into a second-place tie with Gustavus in the conference standings. The Knights and Gusties face off on Monday, Jan. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at West Gym.
The Knights, who trailed 31-30 at the break, opened the second half on an 12-4 spurt to take their largest lead at 42-35 at the 14:14 mark, as Vig and Katie Freeman each canned three-pointers during the stretch. Carleton still led until CSB's Leah Laurich drilled a three and Kempe scored on a lay-up with five minutes remaining.
Beth Freeman's three-pointer tied the game at 55-55 with 3:19, and her lay-up made it 57-56 with 2:19 to go. Carleton got a stop on CSB's next possesion, but turned the ball over and Kempe answered with the decisive three-pointer.
In the first half, the hosts broke open to a 17-10 lead and extended it to 23-15 on a Tara Schloe lay-up. Trailing 30-23 with 2:57 left in the half, the Knights scored seven of the half's final nine points, five by Vig, to trail 31-30 at the half.
