SALEM, VA—Hampden-Sydney’s top-ranked basketball team scored a road victory over Old Dominion Athletic Conference-foe Roanoke, 79-69, Saturday as Tiger All-American Jeff Monroe (Raleigh, NC/Broughton) scored a team-high 19 points. The Tigers led by five at the break and owned as much as a 13-point second half lead (71-58) after a pair of three’s by freshman Kevin Forrester (Wytheville, VA/George Wythe) and a layup and free throw by Jason Holman (Amelia, VA/Amelia Co.) with 7:53 to play.

Roanoke guard Jared Butler paced a Maroon run with five points, while senior forward Drew Crowder added four of his game-high 22 as the Tiger advantage dropped to seven points, 74-67, with 5:33 to play. Free throws by Tiger senior Mike Thompson and a running jumper by Gunn iced the game for Hampden-Sydney over the final three minutes of action.
