Monmouth (4-8, 0-6) hit on a respectable 47.7 percent of its field goal attempts but, for the second straight day, saw a late rally come up short. After trailing by as many as 17 points in the second half, the Scots cut the gap to 79-76 on a Troy Bennett basket with four minutes to play. But Monmouth would get no closer, and the Pioneers' Greg Monfre sealed the deal with a clutch three-pointer with just under a minute to play to put his team up eight.
Bennett led five Scots in double figures with 19 points and Travis Miller was solid again, scoring 18 and leading the team in rebounds (6), assists (4) and steals (3). Rob Purlee (12 points), Tucker Blaser (11) and Anthony Beaird (11) were the Scots' outher double-digit scorers.
Jason Scheper had 20 points for the Pioneers and Ben Hickethier added 19.
