Maryville (Mo.) 76, Principia 58

St. Louis, Mo. — Maryville Men Extend Streak;

Maryville University's men's basketball team extended their win streak to three games and remained undefeated in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play with a 76-58 victory over the Panthers of Principia College (1-11, 0-2 SLIAC).
The Saints (4-8, 2-0 SLIAC) started off slow but quickly gained some momentum to gain a 35-29 edge in the first half. They knocked down four three-point field goals and hit 7-9 (.778) from the free throw line.
That momentum would carry over to the second half, as the Saints knocked down four more three pointers and shot 11-14 (.786) from the charity stripe.
Maryville shot 25-64 (.391) from the floor, including 8-30 (.267) from behind the arc and 18-23 (.783) from the line. Principia was 20-46 (.435) from the floor, 5-14 (.357) from three-point range and 13-20 (.650) from the foul line. The Saints also outrebounded their opponents 41-33 and forced 23 turnovers.
Four Maryville players finished in double figures. Sophomore Matt Regan led the pack with 16 points on 6-9 (.667) shooting, while junior Stephen Bash recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 boards. Bash was a perfect 5-5 (1.000) from the field and 1-1 (1.000) from the charity stripe.
Also scoring in double figures were sophomore Ben Hebl and junior transfer Andrew Hulbert. Hebl had 11 points, while Hulbert tallied 10 points, four assists and two steals. Freshman Keith McWilliams sank 9-11 (.818) shots from the line and also added six boards and three blocks for the Saints.
The Panthers were led by Joey Aimonetti with 17 points, five rebounds and four blocks. Tucker Fendon chipped in with 13 points and seven boards for Principia.
Maryville will be back in action on Wednesday, January 21, when they host SLIAC foe MacMurray College in a 7 p.m. conference matchup at the Simon Athletic Center.
