LETU FALLS TO AUSTIN COLLEGE, 68-64
The LeTourneau University men’s basketball fought hard in the second half only to come up a few points short in a 68-64 loss at Austin College on Thursday night in American Southwest Conference East Division action.
The YellowJackets (1-11, 0-1) trailed 30-18 at halftime before making a comeback late in the second half. Junior Julius McClaskey led three LETU players in double figures with 18 points. Junior Reese Lantrip hit four three-pointers en route to 15 points. Freshman guard Scott Potter came off the bench to hit four trifectas and finished the night with 13 points.
The Kangaroos (3-9, 1-1) played stingy defense in the first half and held on in the second half. Chris Caudle led three players in double figures with 15 points. J.P. Johnson, 14 points, and Kyle May, 10 points, both hit key free throws down the stretch to hold on for the victory.
Turnovers plagued the YellowJackets in the first half, but the second half was a different story with only four turnovers. Overall, LETU drilled 12 three-pointers and are ranked sixth in the nation in three-pointers made per game.
The Kangaroos hit on 7-of-14 treys and held a 40 to 35 advantage in rebounds. AC shot 42.9 percent from the floor while the YellowJackets shot 39.0% from the floor.
