Gettysburg jumped out to a 24-11 lead with 7:46 to play in the first half, but the Shoremen were back within six points at the half as the Bullets led, 30-24. Washington came out hot in the second half, outscoring the Bullets, 27-11, over the first 7:01 of the period. The Shoremen connected on 10-of-13 field goal attempts and six-of-eight three-point attempts during the run.
Gettysburg rallied to tie the score at 53-53 on a lay-up by Kyle Jakobe with 7:03 left in game and pulled ahead, 55-53, on a lay-up by Dami Oloruntoba with 6:33 to go. Washington junior guard Andrew Gentile drained a three-pointer on the next Washington possession and sophomore guard Dustin Abbate followed with a three of his own with 4:26 to play to put the Shoremen back in front, 59-55.
The Shoremen led the rest of the game, but the Bullets were back within one point after Todd Brady converted a lay-up with 2:19 to go to trim the margin to 64-63. Stem answered with a three-pointer on the Shoremen's next trip down the court to make it 67-63. After a missed three-pointer by Gettysburg's David Glaser with 1:27 remaining, Washington used up almost the entire shot clock before sophomore forward Jonathan Webb nailed a trey with 55 seconds left to make it 70-63. Stem was six-for-six and Webb was two-for-two from the free-throw line in the final minute to seal the win for Washington.
Stem's 31 points came on 8-for-11 shooting from the field, four-for-seven shooting from beyond the arc, and 11-of-12 shooting from the free throw line. He also dished out four assists and had a game-high three steals in the win. Webb finished with 14 points, four assists, and a career-high 12 boards, while Abbate tallied 16 points, canned four-of-seven three-pointers, and dished out four assists. Gentile finished with 10 points in the victory.
Gettysburg got 23 points and a game-high six assists from Glaser and 19 points and six boards from Oloruntoba. Jakobe also reached double figures in scoring with 11 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Washington's last win over the Bullets was a 74-65 victory on January 25th, 1997. Today's win breaks the Shoremen's six-game skid against Gettysburg and their eight-game overall losing streak.
