Johns Hopkins 70, Washington College 63

Chestertown, Md. — Visiting Johns Hopkins University outscored host Washington College, 11-1, over the final 2:09 of the game en route to a 70-63 Centennial Conference win over the Shoremen this afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. Hopkins remained unbeaten in the conference at 4-0 and improved to 8-2 overall with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 0-4 in conference play and 3-8 overall with the loss.

Washington's final field goal of the game came with 3:42 left on the clock as sophomore guard Kyle Stem converted a lay-up to give the Shoremen a 62-59 lead. Neither team scored again until their was 2:09 to play when the Blue Jays' Kevin Marquez converted a put-back to put Hopkins within one at 62-61. Danny Nawrocki and Frank Mason converted lay-ups on each of the next two Blue Jay possessions at 1:34 and 1:04, respectively, to put Hopkins in front, 65-62.

Stem scored what would prove to be Washington's final point when he knocked down one-of-two free throws with 29 seconds left, but Eric Toback converted a lay-up and free throw eight seconds later to push the lead back to five at 68-63 with 21 seconds left. Nawrocki made a pair of free throws with 14 seconds remaining to provide the final margin.

Nawrocki scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting, blocked two shots, and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to lead the Blue Jays. Toback added 18 points, two blocks, and six boards, while Marquez finished with 11 points and Mason scored seven points and dished out a game-high five assists.

Stem led Washington in both scoring and rebounding, pouring in 14 points and collecting six boards. Senior forward David Horvath added 13 points, while sophomore forward Jonathan Webb tallied 11 points and a team-high four assists.
