Catholic 81, Mary Washington 72

FREDERICKSBURG — Catholic won its fifth CAC Tournament Championship as the second-seeded Cardinals held off top-seeded Mary Washington, 81-72, Saturday afternoon. The win gives Catholic the CAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, it's seventh straight invitation to the big dance.

Blair Mills was one of four Cardinals in double figures with a team-high 17 points. The senior added six rebounds and hit 13-of-14 shots from the free throw line.

Sophomore Patrick Satalin scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half. His key three-pointer with 3:14 in the game gave the Cardinals a 67-56 lead.

William Morley netted 12 of his 14 points in the first half to help CUA to a 43-36 lead. The Cardinals (23-5) were a blazing 18-of-27 (66%) shooting compared to the Eagles' 14-of-30 (46%) effort.

Mary Washington (20-8) could only get as close as 50-49 midway through the stanza on a jumper by Mike Moore. Erik Rodriguez then hit one of his team's 10 treys and his third on the day to make it a 57-54 game with 7:43 to play.

Satalin would then help the Cardinals pull away for good by scoring the next 10 points capped off with his huge three-ball to give CUA a double-digit lead.

Mills then iced the game by hitting 11-of-12 free throws with under two minutes to help the Cardinals to its third CAC Championship in the last four years.

Rodriguez and Moore each had 11 points while Evan Fowler led all scorers with 20 points and 11 assists.

The win avenges a CAC Championship loss to the Eagles in last season's Championship game at the DuFour Center.

Senior Adam Dickman added 10 points while Satalin dished out six assists.
