WU opened the game by hitting their first four shots as senior Barry Bryant cored eight of the Bears first 10 points to open up an early 10-2 lead with 17:45 left in the first half. Chicago answered right back as the Maroons scored the next 12 points to move ahead 14-10. Freshman Brandon York scored on a driving lay-up with 11:16 left as WU ended a 6:29 scoring drought.
Chicago (12-13, 8-6 UAA) took its largest lead of the first half at 37-27 after Brian Cuttica nailed a three-pointer from 30-feet out at the buzzer. Cuttica had 11 points in the first half, including three from beyond the arc. Bryant led the Bears with 14 first-half points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. The rest of the Bears squad was 5-of-21 as Washington U. shot .344 (11-32) from the field in the opening frame.
The Maroons continued to extend its lead on the Bears as Chicago opened the second half with a 13-3 run to take its largest lead of the game at 50-30 with 15:25 left in the game. WU answered with a 13-2 run as York came off the bench and provided a spark for the Bears. He scored eight points, including a deep three pointer, to trim the lead to 11 and then sophomore Mike Grunst slammed home a two-hand dunk to cut the lead to 52-43 with 11:01 left.
After a Chicago timeout, the Maroons answered with a 7-0 run as Brandon Woodhead nailed a three-pointer to put UC ahead 59-43. Bryant scored five consecutive points to trim the lead to 63-52, but Washington U. would get no closer.
Bryant, who finished with a career-high 30 points in his final regular season game with the Red and Green, scored 16 straight points for the Bears late in the second half. York added 12 points off the bench for the Bears.
