Kenosha, Wis. — The Carthage College men’s basketball team (15-10, 7-7 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) closed out its 2004 season on Saturday, February 28 with an 81-69 loss to CCIW-opponent Augustana College (Ill., 16-9, 10-4 CCIW) at the Carthage Physical Education Center in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage led by two points at halftime, 38-36, after falling behind by as much as 11 points, 26-15, at 8:23. The Vikings took the lead for good, 40-38, at 18:38 second half and went up by 14 points, 58-44, at 10:39. The Redmen got the lead back to eight, 63-55, at 7:17 before Augustana (Ill.) went up by 15, 71-56, at 5:50. The Vikings went on to win by 12 points, 81-69. Augustana (Ill.) shot 47 percent (29-62), while Carthage shot 35 percent (22-63). Drew Carstens led the Vikings with 13 points, while Jim Thomas added 12 points. Carthage’s Theo Powell had game highs of 18 points and nine rebounds, while Ryan Hargesheimer chipped in 12 points.
