Kenosha, Wis. — The Carthage College men’s basketball team (15-9, 7-6 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated CCIW-opponent Elmhurst College (10-14, 2-11), 77-68, on Wednesday, February 25 at the Carthage Physical Education Center in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage led by 20 points at halftime, 42-22. The Redmen made it a 23-point game, 47-24, at 18:29 second half. Carthage still had a commanding, 19-point lead, 68-49, at 5:04 when the Bluejays made a late run, closing to within five, 73-68, with 47 seconds to play. Carthage went on to win by nine points, 77-68. The Redmen shot 44 percent (22-50), while the Bluejays shot 45 percent (26-58). Carthage’s Theo Powell scored 22 points on five-of-14 field goals and 12-of-15 free throws, along with a game-high 11 rebounds and five assists. Mark Morrison had 19 points. The Bluejays’ Chris Martin had a game-high 29 points on 10-of-17 from the floor and six-of-nine free throws, along with eight rebounds. Carthage closes out the season on Saturday, February 28 by playing host to CCIW-opponent Augustana College (Ill., 15-9, 9-4 CCIW), also at the Carthage PEC (7:30 p.m.).
