Senior forward Jessica Mennen and junior center Amanda Berner were the story for head coach Monica Severson’s squad. Mennen dropped in 26 points, pulled down 13 rebounds, dished out three assists and picked up two steals. Berner also turned in a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds.
Wartburg, increasing its record to 18-8 and winning its fourth straight quarterfinal round game, opened a 14-3 lead less than seven minutes in. The rest of the game saw both sides turn in strong strings. The Knights upped the lead to as much as 13 points and UD (14-12) rallied to within one but could never gain the lead.
Wartburg, third seed in the tournament, faces off against second-seeded Simpson for the second year in a row in semifinal round action at Cowles Fieldhouse in Indianola. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27. The other semifinal pits top-seeded Buena Vista against fifth-seeded Loras in Storm Lake. The two winners meet Saturday, Feb. 28 at a time and place to be determined.
