Ursinus 85, Muhlenberg 68

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — Dennis Stanton scored 24 points to lead Ursinus to an 85-68 win over Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference men's basketball action at Helfferich Hall.

Mike McGarvey added 17 points and nine assists while Brian McEvily added a career-best 17 points.  Will Furey contributed 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds for Ursinus. McGarvey now has 174 assists this season, breaking the Centennial Conference record for helpers in a season set by Haverford's Jamal Elliott when he dished out 168 in 1996.

Jimmy O'Brien paced the Mules with 17 points.
Stanton scored 20 points in the first half as Ursinus took a 44-33 lead into the locker room.

The Mules, however, used a 16-5 run to open the second half and knotted the score at 49-49 on a jumper by Ryan Bonda (10 points) with 14:29 left in the game.

The Bears answered with a 7-0 spurt on a layup from Stanton, a jumper and a free throw from Furey and a two freebies by McGarvey.

After Donte Borden drilled a three-pointer for the Mules, McEvily scored five straight points to put Ursinus back up 61-52 with 11:07 left in the game.

Muhlenberg closed the gap to seven points on two occasions but each time the Bears answered and cruised to the win.
Ursinus is the No. 2 seed in this weekend's Centennial Conference Playoffs hosted by Franklin & Marshall. The Bears will take on Johns Hopkins Saturday at 1:30 at the Mayser Center.
