It was a tight race from the tip-off, but late in the second half, Maryville turned up the pressure and ran away with the 21-point victory.
Overall shooting was the key factor in the game. Maryville finished 35-72 (.486) from the field, 6-20 (.300) from behind the arc and 23-27 (.852) from the charity stripe, while Fontbonne was 30-72 (.417) from the floor, 4-16 (.250) from three-point range and 14-21 (.667) from the line.
Junior Stephen Bash had an outstanding performance for the Saints, shooting 5-7 (.714) from the floor and 6-7 (.857) from the line to finish with a team-high 16 points. He also added six boards and three assists in the win.
Four other Maryville players scored in double figures, including junior transfer Andrew Hulbert, who hit three big shots from downtown and went a perfect 4-4 (1.000) from the line to finish with 13 points. Sophomores Matt Regan and Ryan Klein added 15 and 14 points respectively, while junior Marcus Henderson chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds.
Fontbonne's Michael Horton scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Rob Arbuthnot added 15 points and five boards for the Griffins, while Brian Grasle and Loren Fortune tallied 13 points and five assists a piece.
Maryville is only one win away from the SLIAC title and a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Saints will host their last regular season game this Thursday, when they face the Bluejays of Westminster College at 7 p.m at Moloney Arena.
