With the win, CUA advances to the semifinals where they will host sixth-seeded Goucher, who were 68-65 upset winners in overtime over Marymount, this Thursday at 8 p.m.
Morley finished with a game-high 26 points and Blair Mills added 16 points as Catholic won their 11th straight game.
The Cardinals (21-5) didn’t take their first lead of the game until halfway through the first period on Morley’s jumper to give CUA a 22-20 lead.
Leading 43-35 at halftime, Catholic had their biggest lead of the game at 51-39 with just under 18 minutes to play as Morley calmly stepped to the top of the arc and drained his third three-pointer of the night.
But the Sea Gulls (7-18) methodically chipped away at the lead, getting within three-points twice, the last coming with 3:02 left on a layup by Segun Odumeru to cut the deficit to 65-62.
Morley would feed Mills with an easy bucket underneath to give the Cardinals a 70-63 lead with 1:59 remaining.
Mills added a team-high seven boards and added two blocked shots as CUA was just 25-of-61 shooting including 8-of-15 from downtown.
