SUNY BROCKPORT MEN'S BASKETBALL ADVANCES IN SUNYAC TOURNEY
Golden Eagles defeat SUNYIT, 90-75 for 13th straight victory
BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Senior Brandon Mills (Rochester/Spencerport) scored 19 points with 10 rebounds to lead SUNY Brockport to a 13th straight victory, 90-75 over SUNYIT in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament.
With the victory, the Golden Eagles improve to 20-6 overall, and have not lost since an 80-68 loss at SUNYIT on January 23. The Wildcats fell to 13-13.
SUNY Brockport advances to Friday's semifinals at the Utica Auditorium against either Geneseo or Cortland at 3 p.m.
Charlie Croff (Lockport) scored 18 points with seven rebounds and David Andrews (Huntington Station/Walt Whitman) also scored 18 points with four rebounds. Randy Bills (Fairport) had five assists in the contest.
SUNYIT had five players in double figures. Nick Grimmer (New Hartford) led the way with 18 points along with six rebounds while Malcolm Stanton (Queens/Albany-Sage JC) added 15 points. Leonardo Leon (Washington Heights/Genesee C.C.) scored 14 points for the Wildcats.
The Golden Eagles led by 12 at halftime (49-37), but the Wildcats tied it with an 18-6 run at 55-55 with 12:39 remaining. Brockport went on an 8-2 run in the next 1:40, and opened it up to 10 at 76-66 with 5:42 left.
SUNY Brockport shot 48% for the game while the Wildcats shot 46%. The Golden Eagles had a 42-36 rebounding average, and forced 21 Wildcat turnovers.
