Simpson 84, Coe 76

Indianola, Iowa — Dirk Walker's 16 points and nine assists helped lead Simpson to a 84-76 victory over Coe Feb. 21 in Indianola. Walker was 10-11 from the free throw line and moved to within five of breaking Chris Perrin's (1993-96) school record for career assists (443).

The win gives the Storm the #3 seed for the Iowa Conference Men's Basketball Tournament. Simpson (15-10, 11-5 IIAC) will host #6 Cornell Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in Indianola.

Both teams were hot from the field in the opening frame. Simpon shot nearly 80% from floor, making 19-of-their-24 field goal attempts (79.2%). Coe was 16-30 from the floor (53.3%), and shot 53% from three-point range (8-15). Coe did not allow a Storm offensive rebound in teh first half and outrebounded Simpson 35-28 for the game.

The Storm managed to cool the Kohawks down in the second half, holding Coe to 9-30 from the field (30%). With the scored tied at 71 and a little under four minutes to go, Simpson went on a 9-2 run that was capped off by Nick Boyd's fourth three-point field goal of the night. Simpson pushed the lead to as much as 10 late in the contest.

Boyd recorded 14 on the night, and was 5-7 from the field in his first career varsity start. Ryan Hittenmiller also scored 14 for the Storm.

Coe (14-11, 10-6 IIAC) was led by Brandon Sain who had a game high 25 points on 9-13 shooting. The 6-6 center was 6-9 from beyond the three-point arc. Jake Fish was 8-11 from the floor to post 23 points. Fish added a game high eight rebounds.
