Catholic 72, Goucher 62

WASHINGTON — Catholic won their ninth straight in a 72-62 win over Goucher on Senior Day in a Capital Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at the DuFour Center.

The victory guarantees the Cardinals at least a No.2 seed and allows them to host a CAC Tournament first-round game on Tuesday, February 24th at 8 p.m.

Seniors Blair Mills and William Morley led the way as each scored 19 points respectively. Mills also added six boards and a block while Morley grabbed eight rebounds.

Both teams fought neck-and-neck throughout the first half. The Gopher's Pierre Jones gave Goucher a 27-25 lead with his bucket inside before the Cardinals ended the period on a 13-0 run to close the half and go up 39-27 at the break.

But Goucher (12-12, 7-7 CAC) answered at the start of the second, scoring eight straight points to cut the CUA lead to 39-36 with 15:28 to play.

Senior Adam Dickman gave Catholic their biggest lead of the game, 59-45, with 5:28 in the game. Dickman was fouled while shooting a trey, giving him three cracks at the line.

Tony Posteraro kept the pesky Gophers in the game with his three-pointer with just 1:25 to play, shrinking the CUA lead to 65-57. Posteraro finished with nine points. Teammate Jonathan Garritt led Goucher with 19 points and Issac Brooks added 13.

Morley and sophomore Matt Tanner would combine to score the next six points to help the Cardinals pull away for good.

Catholic scored 25 points off of 20 Goucher turnovers as the Cardinals shot 20-of-42 (47.6%) for the game compared to Goucher's 25-of-63 (39.7%) effort.
