New York City Tech 65, Baruch 63

New York, NY - — The New York City College of Technology hit nine three-pointers to defeat Baruch 65-63 in a CUNYAC quarterfinal basketball game played Saturday afternoon at York College in Jamaica, New York.

NYC Tech led most of the game holding a 12-point lead in the first half and as much as 10 points (58-48) in the second half following back-to-back three-pointers by Roger Redhead with 3:45 remaining.

Baruch chipped away to cut it to two points with 11 seconds left but a last chance possession on a driving lay up at the buzzer by Jonathan Rosario missed sending them out of the tournament in the quarterfinal round for the first time in three years.

Jason Senior scored 18 points and 12 rebounds to give Tech its first victory ever in a senior men's division CUNYAC tournament basketball game. Shacun Malave added 12 points, six rebounds, and 10 blocks, including seven in the first half.

John Burzo led Baruch (15-11) with 18 points and Rosario added 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals in another solid effort at point guard. Garry Etienne scored 11 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, while Sime Marnika added 10 points and seven rebounds.

NYC Tech advances to the semifinals of the men's basketball tournament at York on Tuesday night to face top-seeded Staten Island.
